RANGE OFFICER PROGRESSION

Chief Range Officer

Once UKPSA Range Officers have gained practical experience at national and international matches they can train to become a Chief Range Officer.

A Chief Range Officer manages one or more stages at an IPSC match, ensuring these are delivered safely, with the fair, correct and consistent application of the IPSC rules.

Meet the Prerequisites

To attend the training, Range Officers need to demonstrate that they have gained sufficient practical experience to be considered suitable for training and potential promotion to Chief Range Officer. As a minimum they must be a certified IPSC Range Officer, be recommended in writing by a certified Chief Range Officer and must have gained a minimum of 28 match points (with 22 points at level 2 or above IPSC matches) since being appointed as a Range Officer.

Attend a Level 2 Seminar

Enrol on and successfully complete the UKPSA/IROA Level 2 (Chief Range Officer) seminar. This training focusses on how to manage a stage or section of an IPSC match and looks in detail at aspects like Course Design, Arbitration and Stage Build and Sanctioning. 

Promotion

The NROI Committee has the final decision on the suitability of candidates for promotion to the rank of Chief Range Officer.

Range Master

Experienced Chief Range Officers might eventually decide to train to be a Range Master. 

A Range Master is the most senior match official, responsible for all persons and activities within the entire range, the operation of all courses of fire and the application of the IPSC rules.

Range Masters must be good leaders and managers, able to organise their teams to deliver a safe and challenging  IPSC match to athletes, that meets all the requirements of national and international sanction and the IPSC rules.

Meet the Prerequisites

Experienced match officials with the relevant skills and experience can apply to the NROI Committee to train to become Range Masters. As a minimum they must be a Chief Range Officer and have gained a minimum of 55 match points (with 41 points at level 2 or above IPSC matches) since being appointed as a Range Officer.

Attend a Range Master Seminar

If selected by the NROI Committee, enrol on and successfully complete the UKPSA Range Master seminar. This training focusses on how to prepare, inspect and manage an IPSC match including how to build an effective working relationship with the Match Director, develop and manage the match official team while ensuring that the processes underpinning the effective application of the IPSC rules are followed. 

Promotion

The NROI Committee has the final decision on the suitability of candidates for promotion to the rank of Range Master.
