It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of one of our long serving members – Alan Wragg. Alan passed away in mid September after a battle with cancer.
Alan’s UKPSA membership number was 39. He has contributed to practical shooting in many ways across the forty plus years he was a member. Starting in the distant days of handgun shooting onto shotgun, full bore rifle, LBP and Mini Rifle, he was very knowledgeable about IPSC shooting.
As a range official he was ever present at matches. He served on the UKPSA Council as the Rifle Rep for many years. One of his achievements was to introduce practical handgun as a discipline at the first NRA Action Shooting weekend, in fact he ran the whole event for the NRA and embraced many other shooting disciplines. This was the forerunner to the Action Weekends now held at Bisley.
Alan was instrumental in setting up and running a few shooting clubs and he will be surely missed by those club members for the work he involved himself in.
More recently Alan was the Postal League supervisor for the Mini Rifle and LBP competitions. Designing the stages, and to begin with, calculating all the scores.
Alan enjoyed IPSC Practical Rifle, despite not being able to compete in full blown freestyle PR here in GB. He enjoyed designing the stages for events at Bisley, for many years he assisted The Blue Team in running the PR event at the Police Sport UK annual Championships.
Alan was one of those quiet gentlemen who did a lot in the background and got on with doing stuff. He will be missed. His funeral will be held on Friday 24th October at 12.00pm. Location: The Chapel, Stoneman Funeral Service, Doran Court, Reigate Road, Redhill RH1 6AZ. No flowers please, charitable donations to St Catherine's Hospice at the Chapel.
